HEAT New Mexico Program Offered at United Way of Carlsbad & South Eddy County

Effective January 6,  any low income family or individual that need assistance paying their NM Gas bill are encouraged to come to the United Way office at 116 S. Canyon. 

United Way of Carlsbad & South Eddy Counties 2-1-1 program will be assisting families complete the paperwork for the Heat NM program paid through Salvation Army.  The assistance will be a maximum of $120 per account and assistance may only be received once a year.  United Way staff will be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm to help with this process.

“With the blistery cold weather that has covered Southern NM, we have a significant opportunity to help those in Carlsbad and Loving stay warm this winter,” said Linda Dodd, Executive Director of United Way of Carlsbad & South Eddy County.   "The application process is simple." she added. 

To apply, applicants must bring with them:

1. NM Gas bill:  The bill must be no older than 45 days.  The applicants name must be on the bill either as the primary or secondary.

2. ID’s:  Identification is needed for all adults and children living in the home. 

Valid Identifications for adults include:  Photo ID, Driver’s License, Passport, College ID, or Military ID. 

Valid Identification for children include:  Birth Certificate, School ID, Medicaid or Insurance card or Passport. 

3. Verification of Income:  To qualify for assistance with Heat NM, the applicant and household may not surpass 150% of the federal poverty level, based on the household size.  Income includes any employment or retirement income, SSI, SSDI, TANF documents, etc.
