United Way of Eddy County Launches COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund

CARLSBAD, NM, March 30, 2020 - United Way of Eddy County is launching a COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund with the dual purpose of both granting funding to nonprofits and to provide direct services to local families that are struggling because of the national pandemic.

“I am incredibly pleased that we have been able to provide this type of support to our community during one of our most volatile times.  We want to ensure nonprofits and others on the front line have the necessary financial resources to continue their work,” said Linda Dodd, executive director of United Way of Eddy County.

Non Profit Grants will range from $500 - $2,000 and will be evaluated weekly, based on community need.  “It is important for us to get this money out to the community as quickly as possible, as the needs arise.  We understand the need is today, but the need will continue as the weeks go on,” said Breanna Shields, Grant Review Committee Chair.  Nonprofts can apply for a grant online at

In addition to providing support to local nonprofits, United Way of Eddy County will be providing direct services to families to assist with basic needs such as housing, utilities and food essentials.   Families that have lost income due to work hours decreasing, layoffs or added expenses due to closures will be the priority.   Families can apply for assistance online at

“Our United Way 211 phone line has been fielding many calls daily from individuals needing help.  Individuals that have never before needed this type of assistance are calling in.  Being able to provide this necessary assistance to so many of our local families is going to make a huge impact,” said Dodd.

Funding for both of these programs is due in part to the $65,000 grant awarded from Chevron for our community; in addition to a $15,000 grant from Nuclear Waste Partnership.

Nonprofits and families with questions can call the United Way office by dialing 211 from any phone in Eddy County or by calling 575-887-3504.  Applications will ONLY be accepted online and no walk in applicants will be accepted during the stay-at-home orders.

Additional community support is needed to ensure that we can continue to provide the most support to our community.  Tax deductible  donations can be made at or can be mailed to: PO Drawer EE Carlsbad, NM  88221 with Emergency Relief Fund in the memo.
