Carlsbad, NM, May 26, 2020 - Project Feeding Families is a new program of United Way of Eddy County that is part of their COVID-19 Emergency Relief efforts. Understanding that families are struggling to put food on the table, nonprofit agencies are trying to fill this need but are being stretched very thin and our local restaurants are trying to survive amidst all the shut downs. Project Feeding Families will help all three of these groups.
Meals will be purchased from local restaurants and local nonprofits will provide these meals to families in need.
Initially, Project Feeding Families will provide a lunch for approximately 70 children each day for four days during the week of May 26-29. Children have been identified by Carlsbad Boys & Girls Club as children who may struggle having a meal while the Grab and Go program is unavailable. Boys & Girls Club will deliver meals to these children daily.
After the initial launch, Project Feeding Families will select two nonprofits per week to collaborate with to provide a meal for their target demographic. Organizations that will be assisted are Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter, Carlsbad Lifehouse, Teri Able Community Kitchen and many more in both Artesia and Carlsbad.
It is estimated that 200 meals will be provided every week. The fund will continue its operations as long as contributions support it.
“Keeping our money local is vital to our communities success and the ability to continue to fill the basic need of food to our struggling families is equally important. Project Feeding Families is a win – win for our community”, said Linda Dodd, executive director of United Way of Eddy County.
